Unnamed

Student: Julien Lima
Classification: Transitional Serif (Vox-Atypi)
Variation Axis: Weight (Regular–SemiBold)

Unnamed is a transitional serif typeface designed by a student in the 2024–25 Typeface Design course at FBAUP. Inspired by Minion Pro, it pays homage to late 18th-century Neoclassical serif types while aiming for balance, legibility, and editorial versatility.

Detail of the lowercase ‘n’ and uppercase ‘R’ in Regular weight, showing the slanted stress and wedge-shaped terminals typical of Transitional serif typefaces.

Conceived initially in Regular (400) and interpolated to SemiBold (600), the typeface showcases proportional design with thoughtful structure: strokes begin at around 75pt with slightly heavier shoulders (~77pt), and a stress angle of 12°. The terminals are defined by transitional bracketed-shaped serifs, or cartela serifs (?), which anchor the forms and subtly reference the typographic aesthetics of the Enlightenment period.

Designed for use in compact editorial settings, Unnamed focuses on structural consistency and formal precision. It emphasizes the dialogue between form and function, offering a refined typographic voice for long-form reading with a classical touch.
